If I pay you to write a song for me, who owns the song?
The short answer is that the writers (including you if you have co-written the material) own the song. The longer answer is that it is complicated. It is best to speak to us about this directly as it really does depend on who you are, what you want and the budget available to you.
Where can I hear examples of your work?
Apart from the Bad Pollyanna (our band) material which can be found on the Demo featured on the site we do not have other examples online yet for various reasons. Not least of these reasons is that we are very eclectic and, as you only get one chance to make a first impression, we’d rather you get in touch and tell us what your needs are before you hear anything and make your mind up. We write everything from acoustic ballads, heavy rock, melodic metal, dance music and pop to burlesque style music and commissions from hypnotherapists and local producers. Once you have gotten in touch we would be happy to email you MP3s of the pieces that are the most relevant to you and your needs.
Can you write me a song that sounds like my favourite artist?
Yes, we can work to a brief- although originality is always encouraged.
Can you write music or a score for my film, musical or play?
As long as the style is in keeping with what can be achieved then absolutely yes. A lengthy description of what is required would be the first step.
I want to be a pop/ rock/ rap star. Can you help me?
Please see Artist Development.
Will you listen to my song and tell me if you think it’s any good?
Honestly, it depends how busy we are- although it is to your credit that you are seeking feedback for your work and it’s extremely flattering that you would seek our opinion. We’d love to have limitless time to hang out and listen to demos and write back comprehensive feedback but we do not have this luxury. If we do manage to get around to it only expect a very short reply. The best scenario is always to make an appointment so that you can have our full attention.
Can you teach me how to write songs?
Can we help you develop your talent no matter what level you’re at? Even if you’re a total beginner? Yes. Can we turn you into Elton John overnight? No. Songwriting is like any other skill. It requires a great deal of dedication even if you have some natural talent. The more inexperienced you are the more time you will have to put in if you wish to ever be any good. I myself was once a novice songwriter and the majority of what I now know has been learned rather than inherited through genetics or good luck so I know first hand just how much can be achieved with study and practise.
